Description

French onion meatloaf combines the rich, savory flavors of French onion soup with the hearty texture of classic meatloaf. Using a crockpot, this recipe ensures a juicy, flavorful dish that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • ½ cup caramelized onions

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, French onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
  2. Mix gently—overmixing can make the meatloaf tough.
  3. Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a greased crockpot.
  4. Set the crockpot to LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours, ensuring the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  5. In the last 30 minutes, top with caramelized onions and shredded Swiss cheese.
  6. Cover and let the cheese melt.
  7. Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free breadcrumbs. Try swapping Swiss cheese with cheddar or provolone for a different flavor.
