Description

A hearty, comforting casserole that blends the rich flavors of French onion soup, savory ground beef, and fluffy rice into one delicious dish.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, sliced thinly
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice
  • 1 can French onion soup (1012 oz)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10 oz)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the onions until soft and translucent.
  4. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, onions, French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and rice. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Transfer mixture to a greased casserole dish, cover with foil, and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is melted.
  7. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier version, use brown rice and lean ground turkey. To make it vegetarian, substitute beef with lentils and use vegetable broth.
