Description

A timeless family recipe, Grandma’s Irish Sugar Cookies are buttery, sweet, and perfect for any occasion. Passed down through generations, these cookies bring warmth and nostalgia to every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (preferably Irish butter)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until the dough forms.
  6. Roll dough into small 1-inch balls and place them on an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Flatten each dough ball slightly using a fork or fingers.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, use high-quality Irish butter. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking will help prevent spreading.
