Description

A gooey, chocolatey, nut-filled Southern classic with a buttery crust and a hint of bourbon—perfect for Derby Day or anytime you want to wow a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch deep dish pie shell
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs until smooth.
  3. Add flour, salt, vanilla, and bourbon. Whisk until fully combined.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips and chopped nuts gently.
  5. Pour filling into pie shell and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until golden and slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve warm, at room temp, or chilled with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Let it cool completely before slicing for the best texture. Make a day ahead for peak flavor. Freezes well for up to 2 months.
