Description

Southern salmon patties, also known as salmon croquettes, are a crispy, flavorful dish made from canned salmon, cornmeal, and seasonings. A classic Southern comfort food enjoyed by families for generations.


Ingredients

  • 1 can (14-15 oz) salmon, drained and flaked
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Drain the canned salmon and flake it into a large bowl, removing any skin or bones if desired.
  2. Add the egg, mayonnaise, cornmeal, chopped onion, bell pepper, and seasonings. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite sides or dipping sauce.

Notes

For a healthier option, bake the patties at 375°F for 15-20 minutes or air-fry them at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
